Lifting a Finger to Cancer

Look around you. Almost everyone you see has been impacted by cancer. The lives of loved ones lost, the financial strains, and the emotional toll, among others, are just some of the myriad casualties this most devastating of diseases has left in its wake. If you want to make a difference, it can be as easy as Lifting a Finger. On Wednesday, May 15, I am teaming up with Frank and Colleen of FranksWine, as well as some other local luminaries, to show cancer what we think of it by taking photos of folks just like you Lifting a Finger by “giving the finger” to cancer.
Why the “indecent” gesture? Because cancer does not fight fair. It does not care what age you are, how much money you make, your race, religion, gender, political affiliation, or any other identifier. Cancer does not care about social niceties, being acceptable, or acting “decent.” I have lost about a dozen people I have known to cancer over the past year and a half. My friends – some of the most fantastic people in this world – often give me the “one-finger salute” when I shoot them at events. It is not done out of malice, but out of fondness and fellowship. I decided to leverage this affection in the most effective way possible to have a positive impact on the people right here in this state by donating the net proceeds of this event – and the forthcoming book – to the Cancer Support Community of Delaware.
On May 15, at the future site of Anura Wine Bar (next to FranksWine), I will be taking photos of people “Lifting A Finger” to cancer. There will be food and drink available, as well as entertainment (see below). The sitting fee to have your photo taken for the book is tiered:
$25 = small photo
$50 = medium photo
$100 = large photo
$200 = extra-large photo
$500+ = full page photo

Note: If would rather not have your face appear, we can accommodate that. Bring a mask – bandit, masquerade, medical, Halloween, etc., and we will roll with that!
In addition, anyone who makes the $100+ sitting fee above will be able to provide a one/two sentence testimonial to accompany their photo in the book. We are also looking to list anyone you want to mention for a memorial section (open to everyone). I am doing this as a coffee table book in black/white for creative purposes but also to cut down on printing costs so more money can go to the Cancer Support Community of Delaware. Our goal is to have a book signing in the fall at Anura Wine Bar.
5pm – 9pm kitchen will be open for Patio Fancy Fair… half a dozen items including a Build-your-own-Charcuterie Board, Pimento & Crab Panini, Deviled Eggs, etc…
As you can imagine, this is going to be a significant undertaking, and we can use the help of those who would like to assist with this event. I have registered the domain, LiftingAFinger.com, because I would like to see this not only be a Delaware thing, but spread to different communities and states. Message me with what abilities you feel you could bring to this project and I am sure I can find a suitable operation for you – and include you in the “Thank You” section of the book.
