A Message from Frank on Tastings & Events

June 1, 2022 //  by admin

A Message from Frank, please read

Sometime You Just Have to Hit the Pause Button  ||

Six months ago my wife Colleen and I picked a date of June 1 to reassess our business/home life balance. We spent a good part of Sunday talking about where our priorities lie and what changes should be made to have a more balanced life. During Covid our business exploded because you guys all really like to drink… especially behind your computer screens while you were working from home and home schooling your kids.

A Message from Frank, please read
(Good friend Brian Growney from Lanterna Wines kicked off our very 1st Alfresco Patio Tasting where 6 people showed up!)

Since April 20, 2020 FranksWine has hosted our Alfresco Patio Tastings each and every Wednesday giving the community a respite during a time when many of you were going batshit crazy stuck inside your homes. Every Wednesday the FranksWine Crew pulled out tables and chairs and umbrellas and arranged for Live Music and a Food Truck, called upon our vendors to supply libations to keep you happy and to support a different charity each week.

A Message from Frank, please read

After hosting our 109th Alfresco Patio Tasting last Wednesday and raising over $200,000 for charities in 25 months we have decided to take a break.

As you can imagine the day-of setup and breakdown is very taxing week in and week out. The daily calls and emails and texts every week from our vendors, musicians, food truck chefs, charity organizers, and volunteers is starting to take a toll on the daily everyday business needs at FranksWine especially in the middle of our ridiculously busy wedding season. More importantly it’s taking away from the time I could be spending with my family at home.

(April 2020 seating for 6 vs April 2022 where 130 are seated)

Something’s gotta give. The constant organized chaos needs to settle before things start slipping; The Energizer Bunny in me needs to chill out and refocus. Effective immediately and with heavy heart all of our upcoming scheduled Alfresco Patio Tastings on Wednesdays are cancelled.

I know I will be greatly disappointing the many organizers of charities, dozens of musicians, the talented chefs, our neighbors and friends who have made reservations, and industry suppliers… and for that I apologize.

A Message from Frank, please read
(Thank you for the hundreds of positive comments, thumbs up and hearts from my Facebook post on Memorial Day: https://www.facebook.com/100000510562196/posts/pfbid02Kv5ZciX3nDJ8Jvf2Tr4JZnpaaZu8pKnz4kHPM94fjnZQnXuJXBA84MkUgKMsBuK8l/?d=n)

On the flipside I am looking forward to having breakfast with my Mom and Dad Wednesday morning. While I’m driving there I’ll take the time to call my kids – Amelia and Olivia – in NYC and wish them a happy day. On Wednesday at the shop I look forward to paying more attention to the needs of my hard-working and dedicated crew. On Wednesday afternoon when my wife calls to check in I look forward to actually listening to her instead of saying “hey, I gotta go”. On Wednesday night June 1st I look forward to leaving the shop at 5 PM and going straight home to pick up Colleen and my bonus kids – Bryce and Addy – and hang out at the pool that we belong to. I’m even going to make time next week to visit my college friend Mark who had a scary-ass surgery a month ago and I’ve been too “busy” to see him.

From the bottom of my heart I thank each and every patron – all 11,560 of you! – Who have sat in our parking lot to support the FranksWine Alfresco Patio Tastings. So much good came out of our weekly efforts…

A Message from Frank, please read
(Lindsay,Michelle, Gwen and Jeff who poured libations at last Wednesday’s Alfresco Patio Tasting)

Besides the money raised for charity, how about the countless number of new friends that we made over the last two years; The band members, the chefs, our local – and traveling – vendors, the countless volunteers from all the charities, and especially these awesome patrons that we hand-picked from our weekly patio tastings to join the FranksWine Crew: Brenda, John, Laurie, Liana, Nicole, Paige, and Teresa! I also thank our City, County, and State officials for cooperating every week to make our events happen.

(An Instagram post from a happy patron!)
(An Instagram post from a happy patron!)

We will continue to host occasional events on a much larger scale… NEXT UP: Our Last Hurrah !! Multiple bands, multiple food trucks, multiple charities, lots of libations… Date TBD! Thank you again for your continued support.

Much love and CHEERS!

Stoli Vodka – The Dilemma of Russia vs. Latvia

March 2, 2022 //  by admin

Thank you Rick Jensen of WDEL for clarifying the Stoli Vodka dilemma of Russia vs Latvia. Listen to the podcast: https://post.futurimedia.com/wdel/playlist/78/listen-5498.html

A week ago no one ever questioned the origin of Stoli – 100% of you knew it was from Russia. When the company moved its operations to Latvia, they never informed/educated our industry for a reason: because they wanted everyone to still believe it was Russian!

In a few week you all will be drinking a pint of Guinness thinking you’re enjoying a true Irish Stout… hey pssst … it’s brewed in Canada eh!

It’s all about brand identity, association and perception… bottom line: your hear Stoli, you think Russia! So, here on North Union Street FranksWine will continue to encourage you to POUR OUT & SMASH bottles to raise funds for the people of Ukraine

Bring your bottle in to POUR into our PutinPiss jug and SMASH it here

Covid-19 Update

We are continuing our safely efforts by abstaining from indoor tastings during the Governor’s strict mandates, instead we will continue with our approved outdoor tastings thru at least March 31, 2021 on our Socially📏Distant🔥Heated🌝Alfresco🍷Tasting⛱Patio.  Our tastings are FREE & BYOG (Bring Your Own Glass!)

Well, here’s what we’re doing at
FranksWine on North Union Street:

~ 1 ~

We want to extend our sincerest appreciation and gratitude to the healthcare workers (nurses, physicians, techs, lab staff, pharmacists, environmental workers and everyone else supporting our local hospitals, outpatient facilities and public health systems) in putting their best efforts forward to ensure that our community is taken care of. I speak for everyone in saying that we respect you and we honor you. To show our gratitude FranksWine is offering a
discount to all healthcare professionals:
19% Off Wine & Champagne
9% Off Beer & Spirits

~ 2 ~
I want to raise a glass to all of our industry friends in the bar, restaurant and catering business who are suffering dearly during this pandemic. Here’s one way to support them which I posted on the FranksWine Instagram account. I hope you’ll consider this wonderful gesture to your favorite restaurant. They need your business more than ever. And ask if they offer delivery to your home or even a meal prep service while you’re juggling your day-to-day life and now you’re school-aged kids are home for the next 2+ weeks. Your local restaurants have their walk-in refrigerators stocked with food… meanwhile, your local grocery store’s shelves are empty. We need to utilize those resources!

Bring in your Gift Card receipt from any restaurant dated March 23rd or later
into FranksWine and
Get 19% Off all Wine & Champagne
9% OFF Beer & Spirits

~ 3 ~
We are OPEN for WALK-IN business during our EXTENDED HOURS
Sunday 11am – 5pm

4) When you pull up to our lot, give us a call… Show us your ID… Pop your trunk… And we will place your order inside your car with your receipt.

Total Wine, Costco and BJ’s.

CONTACTLESS
Wine ~ Beer ~ Spirits ~ Cheese shopping!

Extended Store Hours
MONDAY – Saturday 10AM – 9PM
Sunday 11AM – 5PM

~ 4 ~
It’s Wedding Season and we have a lot of consultation appointments lined up. We’ll be here for you and walk the shop and taste you on product as usual. Or if you are not comfortable with that scenario we can reschedule at a later date or
FaceTime YOUR APPOINTMENT as we walk the shop showing you our selection of brands for you to choose. Also, we understand the climate of uncertainty and possibility of unfortunate postponements, so effective immediately we will WAIVE ALL DEPOSITS but will hold your order and prices until your big day. If manageable your caterer would appreciate an extra payment to them before it’s due… it’s been horrific for the catering industry. Ask them if they are doing meal prep and order it up… I bet they’ll even deliver to your home you for free!

~ 5 ~
As a further precaution for the safety of the FranksWine Crew and our customers effective immediately we will
Respect Social Distancing by no longer entertaining in-shop sales meetings by our weekly local reps, visiting winemakers or out-of-town suppliers until further notice. Besides the scheduled FranksWine Crew and customers the only other persons that will be at the shop are the delivery drivers to drop off product.

~ 6 ~

What else are we doing?
You know that we always keep the shop spic-n-span but during any downtime we are prioritizing disinfecting and sanitizing all counter surfaces, shopping carts and baskets, credit card terminals, door handles, walk-in cooler door handles, reach-in cooler door handles, Growler Bar, Wine Tasting Stations, glassware, cutting boards, utensils, floors, doors, windows and restroom facilities. We are fully stocked with TP, but please refrain from removing it from our premises or you may end up like the infamous AssClown.

During this time of unchartered territory and uncertainty the safety and comfort of my staff and customers is my number one priority. I’m not going to list the common sense bullet points of how-to’s that you’ve all read a hundred times since over the weekend, rather I’m going to invite you to my shop for a pleasant experience, cool atmosphere, great music, stellar section and passionate Crew. We’ll continue to do in-shop tastings of wine, beer and spirits… we all need a little nip these days to keep sane, so please come on in!

Be safe, drink a lot of Champagne, eat good cheese (big delivery of DiBruno Bros cheeses, charcuterie, spreads, flatbreads and crostini arriving fresh
from South Philly weekly!)
